ENG vs WI T20I series: Former England skipper Paul Collingwood has been appointed as the stand-in coach of the England team for the T20I series against West Indies. The 45-year-old will be the head coach of England in the absence of Chris Silverwood, who is currently on an 18-months break to manage workload amid hectic international commitments.
Collingwood has been associated with the England team as the assistant coach and even assisted the side for the ICC T20 World Cup this year. Last year, Collingwood was given the coaching role of England’s ODI team for the Ireland series, while Graham Thorpe took charge of the T20I squad for the Pakistan series at home.
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will announce the T20I series against West Indies in the coming week. The players who will be named in the T20I squad and are currently in Australia for the Ashes 2021-22 series will join the squad. However, it is unlikely that most of the players currently in Australia might not get picked in the T20I squad since the first T20I match will get underway from January 22, 2021.
The gap between the first T20I and Ashes will be just four days after the fifth day of the final Test at Hobart. Therefore, the likes of Sam Billings, George Garton, and Reece Topley are expected to get a chance for the WI tour. Several players including Jofra Archer, Jason Roy, Sam and Tom Curran, Olly Stone, Lewis Gregory, and Brydon Carse are currently dealing with injuries.
The entire five-match T20I series will take place at Kensington Oval in Barbados with the first game starting January 22. ECB will also name the squad for the Test series against West Indies which will get underway from March 8.
