Cricket Scotland on Thursday announced the 17-member provisional Scotland squad for ICC T20 World Cup tournament. The side will compete in the tournament under the leadership of the batsman Kyle Coetzer in the UAE and Oman.
Coetzer, 37, has had the experience of leading the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 teams before breaking into the First-Class career. The likes of Richie Berrington, Calum Macleod, Safyaan Sharif, Matthew Cross and Ally Evans have also been named into the 17-man squad.
The board has also roped in former England batsman Jonathan Trott as the side’s batting consultant for the marquee tournament. Trott possesses experience of playing in major ICC tournaments including both the formats of the World Cup and Champions Trophy. Besides, he also has plenty of experience in the International circuit for England.
Scotland head coach Shane Burger welcomed Jonathan Trott’s appointment as batting coach as he said, “What we have in Jonathan Trott is great knowledge and experience of high-performance environments. He’s played in World Cups, Ashes Series and travelled to many destinations around the world. He also understands the demands and high pressures of international sport and the environments that they bring with them and it’ll be fantastic to have him as a support in the build-up to the World Cup,”
The finalised squad is a mix of young pool of players along with the experienced ones like Coetzer and Vice Captain Richard Berrington.
“This squad has worked hard over a long period of time now and deserves the opportunity to show the world what we are about. This is an experienced, versatile and exciting group of players and we’re looking forward to embracing the challenges ahead as a team” Burger added.
