The Australian team management on Wednesday confirmed that opener David Warner and pacer Sean Abbott will not be available for the Boxing Day Test. The duo was also ruled out from the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide last week due to their injuries.
Warner was ruled out of the remaining white-ball series after a adductor muscle strain on his groin earlier this month. While Abbott is still recovering from a calf injury that he sustained during the warmup game between Australia A and India.
“Warner and Abbott spent time in Sydney outside the team’s bio-secure hub to recover from injury. While neither player has been in a specific ‘hotspot’ as outlined by NSW Health, Cricket Australia’s bio-security protocols do not allow them to rejoin the squad in time for the Boxing Day Test,” a Cricket Australia release stated.
“The pair travelled from Sydney to Melbourne to continue their rehabilitation given the changing public health situation in Sydney at the time,” it added.
Both the players flew to Melbourne for the second Test unfortunately, they will miss out on this game starting December 26.
Cricket Australia (CA) is also considering hosting the third Test of the series at Melbourne, considering the fresh outbreak of COVID-19 cases in Sydney.
