IND vs ENG 2022: England Test captain and flamboyant all-rounder Ben Stokes will not be available, a relief to India skipper Rohit Sharma. In a recent interview, England’s limited-overs skipper indicated that Stokes will focus completely on Test cricket until the winter. Hence, he will not be considered for the India and South Africa series.
“Ben won’t play white ball this summer. We just want him to go off and be himself as Test captain as it’s a huge responsibility. I don’t want Ben this summer, I want him in November. That’s when our race will be run,” Eoin Morgan told Daily Mail in an interview.
Ben Stokes was recently named as the captain of the England Test team. This was done after Joe Root stepped down following a poor run of form for the team. In their last 17 Test matches, England has only won one.
England’s Test comeback and survival are both hinged on Ben Stokes now that he has taken over the position. As a result, he will miss the white-ball series leading up to the T20 World Cup in Australia. Stokes’ last white-ball series was against Pakistan in July 2021, when he was forced to return from injury early due to a Covid outbreak in England’s camp.
In March of 2021, he played his final T20 match for England against India. Due to a thumb injury, he only played one match in the IPL 2021 and had to return home.
Morgan also intimated that instead of fielding a full-strength squad in the ODI and T20I series against India, England will experiment with the squad.
“The India T20Is will be a great gauge of where we’re at but the rest of the summer will be a delve into the depth of what we have in county cricket considering the injuries we have with bowlers,” Morgan said.
