IND vs ENG 4th Test: Former England player Kevin Pietersen has slammed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for marginalizing Test cricket after England’s crushing 157-run defeat against India in the fourth Test.
The cricketer-turned-commentator went on to the extent of labelling the current batting line-up of England as the ‘worst ever’ owing to their sub-par performance in their ongoing five-match Test series against India.
England took a beating at the at the Kennington Oval after failing to chase down the mammoth target of 368 set by the visitors. The hosts got bundled up withing 210 runs to lose the game to India. With the victory, India has taken a 2-1 lead in the series.
“It’s difficult to know what more to say about this England side. The batting, in particular, is about the worst that it’s ever been, and they have failed to win either of their two-summer series for the first time in 20 years,” Pietersen wrote in his blog for Betway Insider.
“This has not happened overnight. Unfortunately, you cannot expect these guys to deliver when the system is so flawed. It goes back to the summer of 2015 when the ECB thought that they should be clever-clogs and completely marginalise red-ball cricket.
It’s been coming, and we’re now seeing the results. It’s going to take a long time to undo the damage,” added Kevin Pietersen.
Meanwhile, Wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler and left-arm spinner Jack Leach have returned to the 16-member England squad the team announced for the fifth and the final Test set to commence on Friday 10 September 2021 at Emirates Old Trafford.
