IND vs SA 2nd Test: India suffered its first-ever Test defeat in Johannesburg after losing the second Test of the ongoing series against South Africa on Thursday. The first two sessions on Day 4 of the Test were washed out due to rain. However, we got to witness some action on the final session of the day. South Africa began the proceeding with 118 for 2 in pursuit of a 240-run target. The match at that stage was hanging in balance.
Unfortunately, both Bumrah and Shami looked completely out of sorts even as Rassie van der Dussen and Dean Elgar pounced on every bad ball. Both looked ominous with the bat and at one stage it looked like both will guide their home while staying unbeaten at the crease. Rassie van der Dussen, however, got out after scoring a well-made 40 off 92 deliveries, including 5 fours.
Dean Elgar, though, continued to take South Africa closer to the target. He slammed Shami for two consecutive boundaries to take the team just 50 runs short of the target. Elgar stitched an unbeaten 68-run partnership with Temba Bavuma to take his home with 7 wickets in hand.
Dean Elgar, in the end, finished with an unbeaten 96-run knock of 188 deliveries, while Temba Bavuma scored an unbeaten knock of 23 runs off 45 deliveries. India could only pick a solitary wicket of Rassie van der Dussen during the session and they are only themselves to blame for.
With that win, the IND vs SA series is now levelled at 1-1 with one more Test still to play. The third and final Test of the series will be played at Newlands in Cape Town. Both teams would be looking to give out their all in the must-win encounter. South Africa will have the momentum and would be brimming with confidence. India, on the other hand, would be hoping that Virat Kohli gets fit for the final Test of the series.
