IND vs WI: According to recent reports, Mayank Agarwal has been added to India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies. The development has come after the four Indian players have been tested positive for Covid-19.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Mayank Agarwal to India’s ODI squad after seven members, including three players of Team India (Senior Men) tested positive for COVID-19 following three rounds of RT-PCR testing,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed in an official statement.
“The members were asked to report in Ahmedabad on 31st January 2022 for the upcoming Paytm three-match ODI and T20I series against the West Indies. Every member was also asked to undergo an RT-PCR test at home before embarking on their journey to Ahmedabad and the travel was undertaken only after testing negative,” the statement added.
The four players who have returned with positive tests are Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, and Navdeep Saini. Overall, seven members of the Indian contingent have returned with positive tests.
Three members such as India’s fielding coach T. Dilip, Security Liaison Officer B. Lokesh, sports massage therapist Rajeev Kumar have also returned with positive tests.
The four players who have tested positive for Covid-19 include two Indian openers. Hence, BBCI decided to include Indian opener, Mayank Agarwal, into the squad. The board is currently handling the positive cases in the camp properly.
All those who have been contracted the virus will remain in isolation until they return with negative results. India is set to play three-match ODI series against West Indies.
All three games will be played in Ahmedabad. The first match is scheduled to be played on 6th February, while the second and third games will be played on 9th and 11th February 2022.
The ODIs will be followed by three T20 internationals, scheduled to start on 16th February 2022. All three T20Is will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. West Indies have already arrived in India. They are coming into the series on the back of a morale-boosting 3-2 series win in the recently concluded T20 series against England. Kieron Pollard will now be tasked to lead a young West Indies for a white-ball series against India.
