IND vs WI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named a 16-person team for India’s three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Given the hectic schedule India has coming up, including the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year, the first-choice cricketers, including regular skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have been rested for the tour.
Shikhar Dhawan, a seasoned opener, will serve as the team’s captain, with the excellent all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja serving as his deputy. Dhawan is the seventh skipper to represent India in recent months across all formats.
Dhawan didn’t get the call-up for the T20I series for India’s current trip to the United Kingdom (UK), although he made a cut into the ODI squad against England before the West Indies tour. The southpaw will captain the backup team in the Caribbean after playing for the Rohit Sharma-led team in the ODIs against England.
Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shreyas Iyer have been added to the Indian ODI team for the West Indies tour along with top openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill. The Indian think tank has chosen wicketkeeper-batters Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson for India’s away series in Rishabh Pant’s absence. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Mohd Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh will lead India’s bowling squad.
The Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, will host the three-match ODI series versus the West Indies. The opening game will get underway on July 22. The second and third games of the series are will take place on July 24 and 27.
The tour will then conclude with two T20Is in the United States on August 6 and 7. Subsequently, they will play five T20Is against the two-time world champions in Trinidad, St. Kitts, and Lauderhill (Florida).
