India vs South Africa: The Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) will likely announce the Indian squad for the South African and Ireland series before the finals of the ongoing Tata Indian Premier League 2022. The IPL Final is set to be played on 29th May at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. South Africa is set to tour India for 5 T-20 International matches in June.
Former Captain Virat Kohli will likely be rested owing to his inconsistent form at the IPL and overburdened national team duty. Kohli has been performing and leading the Indian national cricket team in continuous apprehension for the past couple of years. He will likely return to the Indian team for the full-fledged England tour in July.
Ahead of the Indian squad selection for the South African series, all eyes will be on the selection committee which will definitely consider the performance of players in the ongoing edition of IPL. The youngsters who will be on the radar are Prithvi Shaw, Umran Malik, and Abhishek Sharma. Hardik Pandya will too make a comeback after a sizzling performance in the league.
The main barrier for the selection committee will be choosing the top order for India in view of the T20 World Cup scheduled later this year. KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma being the top contenders have the same style of playing, i.e., settling down and then power hitting. None of them retaliated in the power play of the 2022 IPL.
It will truly be interesting to find out what the selectors opt for and comprise a perfect T-20 team. The selection committee is led by MSK Prasad and includes former Indian cricketer Deep Das Gupta. Among other contenders to get a place in the squad are Rahul Tewatia, Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Dinesh Karthik, and Kumar Kartikeya Singh.
