There have been a lot of buzz over opener Rohit Sharma’s exclusion from the upcoming Australia tour starting tomorrow. Rohit Sharma returned to India after winning the fifth IPL title in the UAE. He was not selected in the limited-overs series and only included in the Test team.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli finally issued clarification over the perplexity of is selection for the tour. The skipper admitted that he lacked clarity from the day one of the team selection.
“Yeah it definitely would have increased the chances of both of them playing Test matches,” Kohli said ahead of the first ODI.
“Someone like Saha who had an injury during the IPL is here doing his rehab. So we’re aware of his progress and he’s on the right path to make sure that he’s fit and available in time to play the series.”
“And same would have been the case with Ishant and Rohit as well. It would have given them a chance to get themselves fit and be available for the start of the Test series,” he added.
During IPL, Rohit Sharma had sustained a hamstring injury which forced him out of several matches in the knockout stage.
Pacer Ishant Sharma was also named into the squad assuming, both Rohit and Ishant would have recovered by that time. Unfortunately, their reports didn’t come as encouraging leading to their extended stay at the NCA.
The BCCI also requested Cricket Australia (CA) asking them to relieve the quarantine protocols for both the players on their arrival on December 11.
