The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday appointed former cricketer Shiv Sunder Das as batting coach of the Indian Women Cricket team. After a recommendation from National Cricket Academy head Rahul Dravid, the former Orrisa opener has been appointed for the position.
Shiv Sunder will also fly to England with the Indian women team for the Test and white-ball series starting next month. The women’s team will fly together with the men’s team in a charter flight on June 2.
Harmanpreet Kaur led side will play in one-off Test, three ODIs and as many Twenty20 Internationals against the England women team.
Das, 43, has already served at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the head coach of women’s cricket’s India A side. Besides, he has also served as the head coach of the Emerging women’s sides for numerous tours between 2019-20. His appointment would benefit the likes of Priya Punia, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma who have previously played under him.
Cricbuzz understands that the bowling coach Narendra Hirwani won’t be a part of the Indian women contingent for the England tour. Newly-appointed head coach Ramesh Pawar (a spinner himself) will cover for him for the tour. Moreover, England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also requested BCCI to send a consignment under 30 members also one of the reasons for that.
All the members will assemble in Mumbai on May 20 and then serve a two-week quarantine before setting off to the UK on June 2.
