IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in Bharat Arun as their bowling coach for the upcoming edition of the tournament. India’s former bowling coach takes over from Kyle Mills with immediate effect.
Former Indian cricketer, Bharat Arun played 2 Tests and 4 ODIs during his international cricket career. He was part of India’s previous coaching set-up, which also had the likes of Ravi Shastri and R Sridhar. Besides, he was also the bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
“I’m very excited and looking forward to becoming part of a highly successful franchise, such as the Knight Riders,” Arun said on his appointment.
“I have admired the Knight Riders franchise for not only being very successful in the IPL & around the world in T20 leagues but also for the way it is very professionally run.”
Head Coach Brendon McCullum said: “A warm welcome to B Arun to the KKR coaching staff. With a strong and successful pedigree in the international game, I’m sure Arun will complement the current staff we have and I look forward to working with him. His experience at the international level and the ability to give confidence and clarity to our bowling group will be important, as we attempt to quickly align a new group of players to the values and style of play for KKR”.
Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021:
Kolkata Knight Riders endured a horrendous outing in the India leg of IPL 2021 as they finished at second from the bottom of the points table. KKR, however, made an outstanding comeback in the second leg of the tournament and went on to reach the final of the tournament. KKR, unfortunately, lost to CSK in the summit clash but would be proud of the way they performed that season.
Ahead of the next edition of the tournament, KKR has retained the likes of Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell. None of them, however, is likely to lead the team for the 15th edition of IPL. KKR would be looking to find a new skipper ahead of the mega actions, scheduled to be held in February.
