After suffering a 2-0 defeat in the Test series against Pakistan, South Africa would look to exhibit a better show in the upcoming T20 series. Having said that, it won’t be easy for a young Proteas squad, led by Henry Klaasen.
Ahead of the three-match series, the senior-most member in the squad, David Miller spoke on his importance as an experienced player in the squad. Miller, who has so far represented South Africa in 78 T20 internationals, feels secure in what he wants to do that would bring clarity and calmness in the squad.
“I am secure in my role and in what I want to do which brings calmness and clarity to the squad and to players that have not been on the international circuit. It can give them reassurance in their role and am looking to help out with youngsters off the field. And then on the field, cricket is about performance.
“You need to stick up your hand and perform when the team requires you to. We all need to perform as players but it helps when senior players perform,” ESPNCricinfo quoted Miller as saying.
David Miller, who is the only player in the squad to have played a game in Pakistan, knows that the pitches would be different than the ones offered back at home. The 31-year old is keen to put runs behind his back and help the youngsters flourish both on and off the field.
“We are representing our country and we are here to win,” he said. “It would be great to play guys that we are accustomed to but at the same time, it gives us a great opportunity for guys that haven’t played to step up. As a senior player, I would like to step up in a lot of different areas on and off the field.”
