Former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews and right-handed batsman Dinesh Chandimal have returned in the Sri Lankan squad ahead of the first Test between Sri Lanka and England.
Mathews after recovering from his hamstring injury, joined the 22-player squad on Wednesday. Due to his injury, Mathews couldn’t play in the South Africa Test tour, which the team lost against the hosts 2-0.
Chandimal also missed the last Test, but will star in the series against England, probably batting in the middle-order along with Mathews.
Facer Nuwan Pradeep and spinner Lakshan Sandakan have also been named in the squad and are expected to play a vital role in bolstering the bowling line-up of the team in the absence of Dhananjaya de Silva and Kasun Rajitha, both of whom are out due to injury.
Sri Lanka is set to lock horns with England for a two-match Test series commencing from January 14. The Test series forms a part of ICC World Test Championship. The first Test will be played between January 14 to January 18, while the second Test will be played from January 22 to January 26. Both the Tests will be played at the Galle International Stadium.
