Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe 2021: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will lock horns with each other in the second ODI of the three-match series at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, January 18. Sri Lanka has begun the series on a positive note, having won the first ODI by 5 wickets.
On a batting paradise in Pallekele Stadium, Zimbabwe batted exceedingly well to score 296 runs in the first innings of the Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe first ODI. Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Chakabva put on an 80-run partnership for the opening wicket.
The duo made substantial contributions with the bat. Later, Sean Williams played a sensational knock of 100 runs off 87 balls to guide the team to a par score on the board. For Sri Lanka, seamers picked most of the wickets. N Pradeep picked 2 for 54 in 10 overs, while C Karunaratne managed to pick 3 for 69 in 10 overs.
Despite conceding such a big total, Sri Lanka managed to chase it down inside 49 overs. Pathum Nissanka set the tone for the chase as he played a valuable 75-run knock in 71 deliveries.
It was followed by a match-defining partnership between Dinesh Chandimal and Charith Asalanka, which helped the team win the match. Chandimal scored 75 off 91 balls, Charith Asalanka also made a valuable contribution of 71 runs in just 68 deliveries.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers received little help from the surface. Besides, they were guilty of not bowling at great lengths for a consistent period. They couldn’t succeed in preventing Sri Lanka stitch partnerships and hence the game slipped out of their hands. Richard Ngarava was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 3 for 56 runs in 10 overs.
