Ahead of the upcoming CSA T20 League, the Durban franchise has roped in players such as Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Reece Topley, and Prenelan Subreyan. For the unserved, the team is owned by RPSG Group, which is owned by Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.
As per the rules, each team can sign a maximum of one capped South African player, three overseas players and an uncapped player prior to the start of the player auctions.
Earlier, the MI-owned Cape Town franchise announced their list of three players picked before the auction.
“I welcome all the players to the RPSG Durban family,” Dr Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman of RPSG Group, said. “It’s a new beginning, full of hope and promise. We are confident that the talented players will add to the foundation of the team and will uphold our core philosophy of performance.”
Interestingly, the likes of Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers were all part of the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
De Kock, playing his first season for Lucknow this year, performed admirably. He scored 508 runs while opening the batting. On the other hand, Jason Holder claimed 14 wickets in 12 matches, while Mayers wasn’t given an opportunity to show his mettle in a single game during the season.
The uncapped, Subreyan, has been in the headlines for his stellar numbers in domestic cricket. He was the Player of the match when the Dolphins won the four-day cricket title earlier this year.
He was also the captain when the team reached the semi-final of the CSA T20 Challenge. He claimed 7 wickets in 7 innings with his off-break during the competition. In all, he has 69 wickets to his name in 79 T20 games.
