Kolkata Knight Riders continued to keep their contention for the playoffs alive after beating Rajasthan Royals by 60 runs. It was sheer brilliance from Pat Cummins as he rattled Rajasthan Royals’ batting lineup and scripted victory for his side in Dubai.
Earlier, KKR skipper Eoin Morgan had shone for the side during their innings in which he smacked RR bowlers for 68* and posted 191/7 in 20 overs.
Already out of the playoffs race, Steve Smith-led side had won the toss and decided to bowl first. Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana opened the batting for KKR and failed to give a good start for the side.
Rana got out on a duck while Gill departed after scoring 36 runs off 24 balls and stitched 72 run partnership with Rahul Tripathi (39 runs)
It was skipper Eoin Morgan who took charge of the innings and anchored his side to a massive total in 20 overs. He also as he scored his first half-century of the season in which he ransacked RR bowlers for five boundaries and six sixes.
Rahul Tewatia was the pick among the bowlers by taking down three wickets in his spell while Kartik Tyagi took two wickets in his spell.
Pat Cummins finishes with 4/34
Defending the target of 191 runs, Pat Cummins wreaked havoc in Rajasthan Royals’ batting lineup by dismissing three of their top batsman in his first spell. Such was his attack that RR was struggling at 37/5 within the powerplay.
Jos Buttler and Rahul Tewatia tried giving some resistance before getting out in the next few overs. Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy also made it look easier for KKR by picking a couple of wickets each and ensured two winning points.
Subsequently, KKR won the match by 60 runs and Pat Cummins became the player of the match for his match-winning spell.
Only if Sunrisers Hyderabad loses its next game against the table toppers Mumbai Indians, will cement KKR’s position in the playoffs.
