England Women team captain Heather Knight has been ruled out of the remainder of the Commonwealth Games 2022 as well as The Hundred tournament owing to her hip injury.

Knight’s injury had kept her from participating in either of England’s two games at the Commonwealth Games. She sustained the injury during the opening T20I of the bilateral series against South Africa on July 21 in Chelmsford.

Nat Sciver will be leading the side at the Commonwealth Games 2022, where no substitute players may be called up, leaving the host nation with a 14-member roster for the rest of the competition.

Knight got hip injections while sitting out the final two matches of the South Africa series in an attempt to overcome the issue, but Sciver confirmed on Tuesday that Knight had undergone more scans after only detecting modest progress.

“She’s not in a good place,” Nat Sciver said. “She’s better than she has been in the last few days, still in a bit of pain with her hip.

“It’s probably going to be a bit quick to play against New Zealand. She went and saw our team doctor and had another scan.”

England has won both of their group games convincingly so far. England have already guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals at Edgbaston, with their last group match against New Zealand on Thursday determining who finishes first in Group B.

Knight was set to return to the women’s Hundred for a second season as captain of the London Spirit. On August 12, London Spirit will face the Southern Brave in Southampton.
