David Miller has been selected as Paarl Royals captain for the inaugural season of SA20. It is South Africa’s T20 competition, which begins in January 2023.

The newly appointed Paarl Royals captain joined the team in August, along with Jos Buttler, Obed McCoy, and Corbin Bosch. All four players have already worked with the owners, having played for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Miller is also a member of the CPL’s Barbados Royals, which was acquired by the franchise in 2021. He was named captain ahead of the 2022 season.

“It makes me immensely proud to have been appointed as the captain of the Paarl Royals,” Miller said. “To be able to call it my home gives me great joy. The people of Paarl and the Western Cape as a whole are great supporters of quality and entertaining cricket, and my ambition will be to lead the team in the right manner and give our fans countless memories to cheer their team on.”

Miller’s Royals are currently topping the CPL points table with six wins in seven games. Miller has 166 runs scored in six innings with a strikeout rate of 155.14. He also played for the IPL champion Gujarat Titans this season, scoring 449 runs with a strike rate of 141.19. He finished seventh on the Titans’ run-scoring list this season, trailing only skipper Hardik Pandya. In July, he captained South Africa to a 2-0 victory over England.

The SA20 auction is scheduled on September 19 in Cape Town. The franchises have a total purse of USD 2 million and can purchase as many players as they want, up to a maximum of 17. The amount of money available to them at the auction will be determined by what remains of the purse after the pre-auction signings.
