DBA vs CS: After losing their first match at the hands of Kandy Falcons, Colombo Stars made a strong comeback on Thursday in the encounter against Dambulla Aura.

Riding on a sensational knock from Dickwella, the Stars notched a pretty good score of 165 runs on the board in the first innings. Colombo Stars didn’t make a great start in the powerplay as the likes of Mathews (4), Paranavithana (0), and Asalanka (6) got out cheaply.

By the end of three overs, the Stars had lost three wickets for just 26 runs on the board. Dickwella, however, ensured runs keep coming at the other end.

He forged a valuable 54-run stand for the fourth wicket with Bopara (26 off 25). Unfortunately, the latter got run out but that didn’t impact the momentum.

Chandimal joined hands with Dickwella and the duo added 34 runs for the fifth wicket. The former stayed unbeaten knock of 29 runs in 23 balls, while Dickwell got out in the 15th over after scoring 62 runs in 41 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes.

As for Dambulla Aura’s bowling unit, Lahiru Kumara was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed four wickets for 36 runs in 4 overs.

A promising start turns shaky for Dambulla Aura

In reply, Dambulla Aura made a positive start. Shevon Daniel and Jordan Cox added 53 runs inside the first five overs. Cox, once again, gave a stellar start with a handy knock of 29 runs in just 15 balls but would be disappointed to not have converted the start into a big score.

Daniel (28 off 27) and Rajapaksa (29) also made valuable contributions but they too were guilty of not converting the start into big scores.

The Aura had lost three wickets for 81 runs in 10.2 overs before Tom Abell and Shanaka added 30 runs more to the total. Abell made 33 off 22 but, once again, the Stars were successful in breaking the partnership.

Wickets fell in quick succession after that as Dambulla were denied of stitching a successful partnership. Shanaka fought hard for his unbeaten knock of 31 runs in 20 balls but that wasn’t enough in the end.

DBA vs CS Brief Scores: Colombo Stars 165/9 (Niroshan Dickwella 62, Dinesh Chandimal 29*; Lahiru Kumara 36-4) beat Dambulla Aura 156/7 (Tom Abell 33, Dasun Shanaka 31*; Suranga Lakmal 29-2, Karim Janat 30-2)
