Kings XI Punjab registered their fourth win of the season after defeating Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets in Dubai on Tuesday. Shikhar Dhawan’s century went in vain as, despite his unbeaten 106 off 61 balls, Delhi Capitals stumbled on to their third loss.

Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell ensured victory for the KXIP during the chase and kept their playoffs chances alive. After winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer decided to bat first and put up a big total on the board.

Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw opened the innings for DC, but Shaw’s struggle with the bat continued as he got out of Jimmy Neesham’s delivery.

Dhawan’s blazing form was completely evitable in front of Punjab’s ruthless strong bowling comprising of Mohammad Shami and Ashwin.

In his inning, he smacked the ball all over the ground for 12 boundaries and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 173.77 and took the team total to 164/5 after 20 overs.

KXIP openers didn’t have a good start and lost two wickets within the powerplay. Chris Gayle came in the third down and looked good as he smacked Tushar Deshpande for 25 runs in one over. However, DC staged a comeback especially after dismissing the dangerous looking Gayle.

Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell took over the innings 69 run partnership together and inched towards the well-deserved victory.

Deepak Hooda and James Neesham hit the winning runs and sealed the victory for the side and also climbed to the fifth place in the team standings.

Kings XI Punjab will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next matchup on October 24 while Delhi Capitals will square off with KKR on the same day.
