Pakistan is gearing up for their upcoming ODI and T20I series against Australia. Diana Baig, the right-arm medium bowler, is making her comeback to the squad for the series lined up. Baig was out due to a shoulder injury, missing out on the series against Ireland in their home. Her last game was during the group stage at the Asia Cup against Thailand. Baig is finally returning to the team to play against Australia. She is also named in the Pakistan squad for the Women’s T20I World Cup 2023 taking place in South Africa.

A few other team members of Baig are also set to make a comeback after recovery. Sadia Iqbal, left-arm spinner and Tuba Hassan, right-arm leg spinner, who was out for a hand and index finger injury respectively, will be rejoining the team after sitting out for the Ireland series. Sadia is set to play both the Australia series and T20 World Cup, Tuba will be joining the squad for both as reserves along with Javeria Khan and Aiman Anwar. Ghulam Fatima, Sadaf Shamas and Kainat Imtiaz will be playing the ODIs, however, are reserved for the T20I series. Sidra Nawaz is also added as a reserve for Muneeba Ali.

Pakistan W vs Australia W Series schedule

Australia will be facing Pakistan in three home ODIs set on January 16th, 18th and 21st, which will be a part of the ICC Women’s Cricket Championship 2022-2025 cycle. The T20I series is also scheduled in threes on January 24th, 26th and 29th.

Asmavia Iqbal, chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team said, “The ODI series against Australia is very crucial, the expectations are high as we have won five of the six ICC Championship matches and our aim is to qualify directly for the 50-over World Cup. We have relied more on the senior players in the formation of the squad for the World Cup and we expect them to use their experience on the field and get positive results for the team.”

The return of Diana Baig, Sadia Iqbal and Tuba Hassan will give a boost to the side and will strengthen our bowling attack which has the capability to do well. Sidra Nawaz has been added as our second wicket-keeper in the squad to give Muneeba Ali some space to express herself more with the bat, and gives an added option to the captain to utilize the services of a second wicket-keeper on the long tour,” he added.
