England spinner Dom Bess on Friday confirmed that he will leave Somerset county club at the end of the 2020 season. The right-arm off-spinner will no longer sign a contract extension with the club and he will join Yorkshire for the new season.

Bess played for Yorkshire on loan from Somerset during the last season of the county circuit. He was the part of the Test squad of England in the Test series against Pakistan.

“This is not a decision that I’ve taken lightly. I’ve been with Somerset since joining the academy, I’ve grown up here and some of my best friends are in the team with me. It’s been a really hard decision” Bess was quoted as saying on Somerset’s website.

“There were good discussions with the club and they offered a contract extension, however, I think it’s the right decision in terms of needing first-team opportunities.”

“Given the direction that I want to go with my cricket I think it’s time to move on.” he concluded.

Bess has played 10 Test matches and taken 19 wickets so far with the best bowling figure of 5/51. Since his county debut, he has played 26 first-class games for Somerset and taken 79 wickets.
