English cricketer Adam Lyth has been suspended from the England Cricket Board (ECB) to bowl at any affiliated competitions. Lyth had triggered controversy during the recently concluded English T-20 Blast and asked to undergo an independent bowling action assessment for clearance. However, Lyth failed to fulfil the criteria and was suspended to bowl at all the ECB-affiliated tournaments.

Adam Lyth is currently a part of the Northern Superchargers franchise at the Hundred. He plays for Yorkshire at the T-20 Blast. Lyth had sparked controversy over his bowling action at the semifinal of the T-20 match against Lancashire at Edgbaston on July 16. His bowling action was reported by stand-in umpires David Milins and Neil Mallender.

Adam Lyth underwent an independent assessment at Loughborough University. Lyth’s elbow extension exceeded the 15-degree threshold that is registered in the ICC and MCC regulations. Therefore, Lyth was suspended to bowl at all the ECB-affiliated competitions. Lyth has to pass an independent assessment of his bowling action before being eligible to bowl at prominent championships.

Lyth’s suspension has been recorded at ECB’s Regulation Board as Suspected Illegal Bowling action. He will also not be eligible to bowl in international games.

Adam Lyth has been a reliable performer with the bat. Subsequently, his bowling ban will likely not affect his inclusion at Northern Superchargers or Yorkshire. He smashed a brilliant knock of 79 runs in 33 balls against Oval Invincibles in the last match for Superchargers at the Hundred.

Coming to the semifinal match of Yorkshire and Lancashire, Lyth had only bowled a single-over where Yorkshire suffered a defeat. He went for 10 runs in his over during the halfway stage of the match. Lyth did not bowl after umpires had already insisted he mend his bowling action.
