ENG vs PAK: The England Cricket Team have continued their domination in Test cricket under Ben Stokes’s era. On Monday, the Three Lions secured a 26-run win over Pakistan to win seal the three-match Test series 2-0.
On day 3 of the Test match, Ben Stokes and Co. had set Pakistan a target of 355 runs to win the Test match. A 66-run opening partnership between M Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique meant both teams had an equal chance of winning the Test match.
ENG vs PAK: The veteran fast bowler Jimmy Anderson helped England make the first breakthrough in the form of Rizwan (45). Skipper, Babar Azam, who was needed to play a big knock, got out cheaply as well. Abdullah Shafique was looking good for his 94-ball 45 but Mark Wood rattled his stumps to leave Pakistan in some trouble at 83 for 3.
Pakistan needed a big partnership to keep its hopes alive. Imam Ul Haq and Saud Shakeel gave them that as they added 108 runs for four wickets. The duo kept Pakistan ahead in the Test match but minutes before the end of the third day’s play, Imam Ul Haq got out caught at slips after playing a solid knock of 60 runs in 104 balls.
Mark Wood’s carnage steals the show
Mark Wood stole the show on the fourth day for England. Joe Root picked the first wicket of Faheem Ashraf for 10 runs. But, Nawaz took the attack back to England bowlers as he played a solid knock of 45 runs in just 62 balls.
The southpaw was putting pressure on the England bowlers but Mark Wood had him caught behind to give England their second breakthrough of the day.
The English fast bowler then picked the most important wicket of Saud Shakeel, who was batting at 94 off 213. He got out caught-behind was his dismissal was debatable.
Shakeel’s wicket in the 94th over at the score of 291 meant it was all but over for Pakistan. Agha Salman (20 off 31) and Abrar Ahmed (17) showed some fight but Pakistan fell 26 runs short in the end, getting bundled out for 328 runs.
This was England’s 8th win out of 9 Test matches under Ben Stokes in Test Cricket. They would be looking to register the ninth one ahead of the final Test match in Karachi.
