The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday confirmed that England will host either New Zealand or Ireland in the next year.
This could be in contention only in case the Word Test Championship final gets postponed next year. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has already held discussions with the Ireland and New Zealand Cricket Board.
Either of the country would fill in the void if the above mentioned scenario takes place resulting in the revision of the schedule.
The ECB is set to host India early next year for five Test matches and working out on the schedule with the BCCI for the entire schedule.
The finals of the World Test Championship was slated to take place at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in June. But the ECB has found the contingency plan by inviting a team or two during that time.
“We have had a level of engagement in relation to the possibility of a Test in England in 2021,” Warren Deutrom, the chief executive of Cricket Ireland, told ESPNcricinfo.
“It’s not in the current FTP so we fully understand it can only work around ECB’s busy schedule. We’re happy to be patient until those discussions progress and we’ll manage our expectations accordingly.” he added.
