England vs Australia first Test, Day 2: Travis Head, warner, and Labuschagne put Australia in the driver’s seat

England vs Australia first test, day 2: After bowling England out for 147 on day1, Australia would be pretty happy with how things went on Day 2 as well.

Although, England got the first breakthrough of Marcus Harris pretty early in the day Australia made sure that there would not lose another wicket till the end of the first session.

David Warner and Marcus Labuschagne played cautiously in the first hour of the day before playing their shots more frequently.

The duo went on to add 156 runs for the second wicket and kept Australia in the driver’s seat. England finally got the wicket of Labuschagne in the 47th over of the innings off Jack Lean. The Australian batter played an outstanding 74-run knock before going back to the pavilion. Australia had a match under their grasp till then.

However, England came back into the contest as they picked three crucial wickets of Steve Smith (12 off 19), David Warner (94 off 176), and C Green (0 off 1) in the space of 29 runs. And suddenly, Australia had lost 6 for 195.

England was hoping to make a comeback from there but what followed was a notable 41 and 70-run partnership for the 6th and 7th wicket. Carey (12 off 32) and Cummins (12 off 27) couldn’t convert the start into big scores but Travis Head went on to notch his third century in international cricket.

It took only 85 balls to score a century. He ended the day on unbeaten 112 off 95 and helped Australia reach 343 for 7 at Stumps on Day 2.
