BBL 2022 Overseas Draft: KFC Big Bash League’s new policy to draft international players has started with the first player available to draft being Former South African batter Faf du Plessis. If any team signs Faf for BBL 2022, it will be after almost a decade that the former South African skipper will return to the tournament. He has played BBL before when he represented Melbourne Renegades.
Faf is one of the finest batsmen going around for the franchises right now. He also has retired from International cricket which makes him available all season. Currently, he is also the skipper of the IPL franchise Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB).
There would be many franchises who would want his service due to his versatility as a batter and also as an experienced captain. His reputation as a world-class top-order hitter was developed during an international career in which he scored 11,198 runs before becoming a sought-after player on the worldwide T20 circuit.
Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Big Bash Leagues, said:
“The League is delighted to receive nominations from Faf du Plessis, Marchant de Lange, Rilee Rossouw, and David Wiese to enter the KFC BBL|12 Draft.
“The nomination of a player of Faf’s calibre is not only an endorsement of the BBL Draft but also of the BBL’s unique offering as a great experience for players and their families in the Australian summer. We believe it is the players’ favourite competition.
“We thank these players for making themselves available for the KFC BBL and look forward to announcing further nominations soon.”
Other South African players also in BBL 2022 Draft
Along with Faf, there are three more former South African players which will participate in a draft that includes the likes of Rilee Rossouw, David Wiese, and Merchant de Lange.
