Indian fast bowler, Harshal Patel is unlikely to participate in the Asia Cup 2022. The T20 specialist bowler is recuperating from a side strain due to which he hasn’t played in any game in the ongoing T20 series against West Indies.

And, now the reports have suggested that he will miss the Asia Cup 2022 as well. India’s squad for that tournament is expected to be announced on 8th August 2022. For the unversed, Harshal Patel is part of the squad for the ongoing series against West Indies. However, the current injury didn’t allow him to feature in any one of the games played so far.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India gave an update regarding Patel’s injury on Saturday, informing that the medium fast bowler has been ruled out of the last two T20 internationals of the series.

Reports have also suggested that the chances are high that he might miss out on the T20 World Cup squad as well due to the injury. His injury, reportedly, needs four to six weeks to rest and recover.

Since making his debut in T20 internationals, Patel has played 17 matches for India. He last played for India against England on 10th July. Harshal Patel’s injury is also an opportunity for Deepak Chahar to make his way back into the Indian team.

Chahar has recovered fully from his injury and is also part of the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe.

On the other hand, the likes of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are expected to be back on the side in the Asia Cup 2022. Both aren’t part of the team for the ongoing series between India and the West Indies.
