“I don’t feel any disappointment as such”- Shikhar Dhawan on being overlooked for the T20I squad

Veteran cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has been unable to re-establish himself as a mainstay of the T20I setup of the Indian cricket team. As the Indian team continues to experiment with the batting positions in the top-order, the bating positions of players barring a few has become uncertain, even their presence in the squad.

The team is trying out all the permuations and combinations in order to develop a well balanced squad ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Speaking on his exclusion from the T20 squad, Dhawan said while talking to Sports Tak, “To be honest. I don’t feel any disappointment as such. I feel that there is a time for everything, and maybe it’s not my time. Maybe I lack something that I haven’t been able to do too well. So worries, I gave my best and that’s what matters. Till the time I am happy and content, that is all I care about. It’s not like if my name doesn’t come, I will be affected or anything like that. I am in a very good space; I am doing my best.”

While the left-handed hitter remains an important member of India’s ODI squads, Dhawan has been left out of T20Is, with his most recent appearance in the format stretching back to July of last year. However, Dhawan, who has been out of Tests for a long time, is not concerned by his omission and is happy with the way he is playing his cricket.

“If the opportunity provides then why not? When I play the IPL, I try my best to perform. And if I do well there, I might get a chance. Rest is up to the selectors… what their thought process is, what is their vision. Like I said, if it comes, great, but even if it doesn’t, that’s also fine. I am keeping myself fit and strong and whenever I get the opportunity, I am ready for it,” said Shikhar Dhawan, who has been named the ODI captain of the team against West Indies and Zimabawe.
