IC v GG LLC 2022: Gujarat Giants, led by Virender Sehwag, has made a winning start to the second edition of the Legends League Career. The Giants beat India Capitals by 7 wickets to earn their first points on Saturday. It was India Capitals, who batted first and posted a formidable score of 170 runs on the board.
Given how India Legends started their innings, it never looked like they would reach such a big score in the end. Openers, Mazakadza (7) and Mire (9) got out pretty well, while the big fish Jacques Kallis got out without even opening his account. Suhail Sharma too got out on nought to leave the team reeling at 34 for 4 in 6.2 overs.
Dinesh Ramdin then added crucial 31 runs in 26 balls but he too failed to play a big knock. It was his West Indies counterpart A Nurse, who took the team a formidable score with an outstanding knock of 103 runs in just 43 balls, including 8 fours and 9 balls. He stayed at the crease till the end and remained unbeaten. For Gujarat, Thisara Parera was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 for 16 in 3 overs.
In pursuit of the target, Gujarat Giants chased down the score in 18.1 overs. They too didn’t start too well with Sehwag getting out for just 6 runs against his name. Parthiv Patel looked solid for his 13-ball 24 but A Nurse had him bowled in the 11th over.
Kevin O’Brien, though, was in a mood to wreak havoc at the crease. He played a match-winning knock of 106 runs in 61 balls, including 15 fours and 3 sixes. Plunked accounted for his wicket in the 18th over but the Irish batter had done his job by then.
India Capitals did manage to pick three more wickets in the space of the next 7 deliveries but Gujarat still won the game by 2 wickets in the end, chasing down the total in 18.4 overs.
