ICC Awards: Pakistan speedster, Shaheen Afridi made headlines on Monday after winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year for 2021. The year 2021 saw him picking 78 wickets in 36 international matches at an average of 22.20. Shaheen Afridi was outstanding throughout the year across all formats.
He exhibited brilliant performances in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. In 6 matches, Afridi picked seven wickets and helped Pakistan reach the semi-final of the global event. Overall, he picked 23 wickets in 21 T20 internationals played in 2021.
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was named ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year, while Joe Root won ICC Test Cricketer of the Year. In 6 ODIs played in 2021, Babar Azam managed to score 405 runs at an average of 67.50.
Joe Root, on the other hand, scored a plethora of runs in Test Cricket in the year 2021. In 15 matches, he managed to score 1708 runs at an average of 61.00.
Indian woman cricketer, Smriti Mandhana became the second cricketer after Ellyse Perry to have won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy twice. He previously won the award in the year 2018. Smriti Mandhana had a phenomenal outing in 2021. He scored 855 runs in 22 international matches in the year 2021.
