ICC Player of the Month: The nominees for the ICC player of the month for August 2021 have been announced. The women’s nominees will have the likes of Thailand’s Nattaya Boochatham, and the Ireland duo of Gaby Lewis and Eimear Richardson.
Boochatham made an all-round contribution for Thailand in the series against Zimbabwe. Her performances helped her career-best positions across the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings for batters, bowlers, and all-rounders. Thailand went onto win the three-match T20 series by a 2-1 margin.
The Ireland duo of Lewis and Richardson played a big part in Ireland’s three wins out of four in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in August.
Lewis recently became the first Irish player to hit a century in Women’s T20 International. He reached the milestone during Ireland’s 164-run win over Germany in the first match of the competition. She scored 105 off 60 balls, a knock which was laced with 11 fours and 3 sixes.
Richardson, on the other hand, earned the Player of the Tournament award in Europe Qualifiers. She contributed significantly with both bat and ball. She took seven wickets with the ball at an economy rate of under 5. Besides, she scored 76 runs with the bat.
ICC Men’s Player of the month nominations:
For Men’s nominations, Jasprit Bumrah, Joe Root and Shaheen Shah Afridi have made the cut. Jasprit Bumrah picked nine wickets with the ball in the first Test of the ongoing Test series against England. In the second Test, he impressed one and all with his batting exploits after contributing in 89-run ninth-wicket partnership with Mohammad Shami.
Joe Root, on the other hand, has been in the form of his life. The England Test skipper is currently the leading run-scorer in the ongoing Test series against India. He has 528 runs in 4 Tests at an average of 105. He has three centuries to his name in the series. Shaheen Afridi was exceptional with the ball in the two-match Test series against West Indies. He finished with 18 wickets, including 10 wickets in the second Test.
