Cricket Ranking: Australia star batter Beth Mooney has replaced India’s superstar youngster Shafali Verma to claim the top spot of the ICC T20I Rankings for batters after an impressive stint in the recently concluded Australia versus India series. She played an instrumental role in helping the team clinch victory in both the T20I matches the teams clashed in to seal the series.
After the first T20I was washed out, the teams met in the remaining two encounters of the T20I series. Beth Mooney, who came in as a replacement for Rachael Haynes, returned with scores of 34 and 61 in both the matches, respectively, and ended the multi-format series with Australia winning it by an 11-5 series win over India.
Mooney’s compatriot Sophie Molineux also made significant gains in the latest cricket ranking update. She leapfrogged her way, breaking into the top 10 positions for bowlers after climbing 12 spots to No.9. Molineux scalped three wickets in the series at an economy of 5.60 that helped restrict India to below-par scores in the last two T20I games.
Another Aussie player to rise up the rankings include Ashleigh Gardner. She broke into the top 10 to acquire the 10th spot in the all-rounders’ rankings for her heroics with the ball. She finished the series as Australia’s leading wicket-taker. Additionally, Georgia Wareham jumped 14 spots to a career-best No. 48 rank. She ended the series with three wickets and 23 runs in the three games.
As for India, a valiant performance by Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who ended up as the leading wicket-taker of the series with five wickets in two innings, helped her ascend to No. 12 in the bowlers’ rankings. She returned figures of 3 for 21 in the last game.
The ODI rankings also saw some shift in the positions after the recently-concluded series between Zimbabwe and Ireland. Zimbabwe players, who played their first ODI, gave notable performances in the match to make some gains in the rankings.
Josephine Nkomo made the biggest gains in the rankings across all disciplines after scoring 164 runs and scalping four wickets in the series. She debuted at No. 98 for batters, No. 58 for bowlers and No. 57 for all-rounders.
