After a historic victory at the Gabba on Tuesday, team India has raced past New Zealand and Australia to acquire the No.1 spot in the ICC World Test Championship Rankings. The Ajinkya Rahane led team, after battling numerous setbacks, clinched the victory in the four-match Test series final.
The historic win by the team helped them total their World Test Championship points to 430, moving them at the top of the points table. New Zealand has moved down to the second position with 420 points, while Australian is now stationed at the third position with 332 points after tasting defeat at the hands of team India.
With the final victory of the four-match Test series, India has also surmounted the second spot in the ICC Test Team Rankings. Just behind the top-ranking New Zealand team, who are at 118.44 points, India is now sitting at the second position with 117.65 points. Australia has tumbled down to the third spot with 113 points.
The defeat in the final match of the Test series, it was the Australian team’s first loss in over 32 years at their ‘ “Fortress Gabba”. After the Viv Richards led West Indies team, which clobbered the Allan Border led Aussies, India became the first national team to mop the floor with Australia since 1988.
