ICC T20I rankings: Pakistan skipper Babar overtook Aaron Finch to take the number two position in the latest ICC T20I Players rankings, released on Wednesday. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, is firmed at fifth position in the tally.
Babar Azam has been in sensational form across formats. Last week, he overtook Virat Kohli to take the top spot in the ODI rankings. He made a 47-point surge in T20I after scoring 122 runs in the game. The Pakistan cricketer is still 48 points behind number one batsman i.e., Dawid Malan. The upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe will present an opportunity for him to take the number one spot.
Also, Fakhar Zaman too made massive gains in both T20 and ODI rankings. After scoring 8 and 60 in the last two games, Zaman moved 17 points to the 33rd position in the T20 rankings. Mohammad Rizwan who scored an unbeaten 73 against South Africa also achieved his career-best 15th place in the latest rankings.
Devon Conway currently holds the fourth position, followed by Virat Kohli, Rassie van der Dussen and Lokesh Rahul at fifth, sixth and seventh position respectively.
South African leg-spinner, Tabraiz Shami is currently the number one T20 bowler in the world. Rashid Khan is 13 points behind him at number two position. He is followed by Ashton Agar, Adil Rashid and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the third, fourth and fifth position respectively.
Mohammad Nabi tops the all-rounder rankings, followed by Shakib Al-Hasan and Glenn Maxwell at second and third position respectively.
Pakistan ends as beneficiary
In short, Pakistan’s win over South Africa by 2-1 in the T20I series has benefitted the batsmen the most. Only concern would be to improve their team ranking which is currently fourth position.
The worst ranked team among major cricket-playing nations is South Africa with sixth position and 249 points.
