ICC releases nominees for ICC Player of the Month Award

Last month, many players put up an impeccable performance in the shorter format of cricket. On the basis of this excellent performance, the International Cricket Council has selected some players in both men’s and women’s categories who will be awarded the ‘ICC Player of the Month’ Award.

The ICC has released the latest nominations wherein 3 players each from the men’s and women’s categories have been nominated. Based on the voting, 1 player from each category will be awarded.

ICC releases nominees for ICC Player of the Month Award

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel has been nominated after his dominating performance in the India-Australia series where he stood out with both bat and ball. He managed a figure of 3/17 in just 4 overs. Similarly, the form continued in the game against South Africa where he gave away just 16 runs off 4 overs in the first T20I.

Following the top position in MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Player Rankings in the T20 format, Pakistan Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan is the other nominee for the award. He scored seven fifties in the 10 games that he played last month.

Cameron Green from Australia truly enjoyed his September as he rocketed his team to a win against New Zealand. In the ODI, where Australia dropped to a score of 44/5, he played a match-winning 89*. His form continued the next game where he made a quick 25* off 12 balls whitewashing the Kiwis. In the T20I series against India, he hit 61 off 30 and 52 off 21 in the following match to achieve the record of scoring the second fastest fifty by an Aussie in T20Is.

ICC releases nominees for ICC Player of the Month Award

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana are the two Indians to be shortlisted for this award for the very first time. The third nominee is Bangladesh Captain Nigar Sultana.

In a memorable month, Kaur helped her team reach a decent total of 228 with an unbeaten 78 in the first ODI against England and an unbeaten 143 off just 111 balls in the second ODI. She proved her consistency again in the 50-over format.

Making her own way, Smriti Mandhana was the ‘Player of the Match’ in a T20I against England last month with a 79* off 53 balls. In the ODI series against England, she was the second highest run-getter with two fifties.

Bangladesh leader, Nigar Sultana proved to be an asset to the team after her performance in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022 where Bangladesh was crowned champions. She hit a magnificent 67 off 53 balls guiding a win for the team. Similarly, she hit a 78 against Scotland and 56 against the USA.
