Rajasthan Royals bowed out of IPL 2020 playoffs race following a 60-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. They came into the contest after a convincing victory over Kings XI Punjab and increased chances of qualification in playoffs.

However, the side lacked intent against KKR players in what could have marked their entry into top four teams. The batting order crumbled against the overwhelming KKR’s bowling attack, leading to their humiliating loss in Dubai.

Pacer Pat Cummins rattled their batsmen by bagging four wickets and also removed their top three RR batsmen.

As RR exited from the tournament, head coach Andrew McDonald reckoned how and where did his men lost the plot against KKR.

“It was below par and below what we’d expect. In the last couple of games, we’ve chased down big totals and today we never really got rolling,” McDonald said in post match conference.

Rajasthan Royals irked the fans by losing five wickets within powerplay, almost gave away the game and chances of qualifying for playoffs.

“To lose five wickets in the powerplay, generally puts you on the backfoot. We never really gave ourselves a chance to build a foundation and chase down the total. Pat Cummins’s first over was interesting – 19 runs with a wicket. And then he got another couple of wickets on the back of that. We can’t pinpoint an exact reason. We thought we had the best of conditions in terms of the dew. We thought we gave ourselves a good start and it was a total we should have chased,” he added.
