IND vs AUS CWG 2022 Final: India fought exceedingly well with both bat and ball in the final game of the Commonwealth Games 2022, but didn’t manage to win the game on Sunday. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. reduced the Australian women’s cricket team to 161 runs in the first innings. Renuka Singh picked the big wicket of Healy as she had her leg-before to put Australia under pressure.
However, Mooney continued her fine form and produced another stellar knock of 61 runs in 41 balls, setting the foundation for a competitive score. Her partner, Lanning made 36 runs in 26 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six.
The duo stitched a vital partnership of 74 runs for the second wicket and helped the team get a good start. Lanning got run out in the 11th over and McGrath got out in the very next over. Wickets, thereafter, kept falling at regular intervals and, India managed to restrict the Aussies to 161 in the end.
Given how they had started, India would have been pretty pleased with the way they restricted Australia. However, India needed a good start to chase down the score but they couldn’t get one.
Both Shafali Varma (11 off 7) and Smriti Mandhana (6) got out early as India was put under backfoot at 22 for 2. However, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues led the recovery and raised hopes, once again, with a 96-run partnership.
Kaur looked stunning and played a rock-solid knock of 65 runs in 43 balls. Her counterpart, Jemimah also gave a valuable hand, scoring run-a-ball 33. However, the latter’s wicket in the 15th over led to a fall of wickets.
India’s hopes were lost when Harmanpreet Kaur got out in the 16th over. India, eventually, fell 9 runs short of the target. Australia, as a result, won the gold, while India settles for silver.
