IND vs AUS: Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of T20I series, Shardul Thakur named replacement

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the ongoing T20I series against Australia on Friday. The all-rounder had walked out of the field after suffering from concussion during the first T20I game at Manuka Oval.

“Ravindra Jadeja sustained a concussion after being hit on the left side of his forehead in the final over of the first innings of the first T20I against Australia in Canberra on 4th December 2020,” the BCCI press release said.

Jadeja was hit on his helmet by a fiery bouncer from Mitchell Starc during the 20th over of the Indian inning. He left the field after the injury with Yuzvendra Chahal coming in as concussion replacement in the game.Chahal propelled the Indian team to an 11-run victory following his match-winning spell of 3/25 in four overs.

Hours later India won the match, the medical team of the Indian team broke the news about Jadeja’s exclusion from T20I series.

Earlier, Jadeja smacked 44 runs off 23 balls and helped Indian team cruise to 161/7 in 20 overs. He punished the Australian bowlers by hitting five boundaries and a six including a 22-run partnership with Hardik Pandya.

BCCI named pacer Shardul Thakur as the replacement of Jadeja who had a successful last ODI game where he took three Australia wickets.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Shardul Thakur to India’s T20I squad,” the release said.

India has a lead of 1-0 in the three-match T20I series and now both the sides will fly to Sydney for the second T20I match on December 6.
