Cricket Australia (CA) on Thursday confirmed that the three-match ODI series against India women has been postponed due to coronavirus. The series was slated to take place during the month of January 2021, has now been pushed to the next season.

The postponed series will also serve as the preparatory match-up for both the sides before the Women’s World Cup in 2022 in New Zealand.

The board also asserted of exploring the possibilities of three-match T20I series along with the ODI series during the Indian team’s tour to Australia. Cricket Australia’s interim CEO Nick Hockley also said that the women’s team is looking forward to hosting the Indian contingent next season.

“We are very hopeful of delivering an expanded schedule between the Australian and Indian women’s teams for next season, which would be an outstanding result for fans in both countries,” Hockley said in an official statement.

“We had initially hoped to play India this summer, however, the impact of the global pandemic made it necessary to postpone until next season,” he further added.

It will be wonderful to once again host the Indian women’s team, who were centre stage for that unforgettable ICC T20 World Cup final at the MCG in March, and to do so with an expanded schedule from what was originally planned,” he signed off.

Both the teams had last met each other during the final of the women’ T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium in March. The match saw a record-breaking ground showing up to witness the final where the home team defeated the Indian team by 85 runs.
