IND vs BAN 1st Test: India is up 1-0 in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh following a 188-run victory in Chattogram on Sunday (December 18). In pursuit of chasing down 241 runs off 513 runs, Bangladesh had ended Day 4 at 272/6 with skipper Shakib Al Hasan (84 runs) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the middle.
Axar Patel had bagged 3 wickets for India on Day 4, and he followed his suite with Taijul Islam’s wicket on the final day. Kuldeep Yadav rattled host’s lower order on the final day and finished the game with the figures of 8/113 in the game.
Bangladeshm despite skipper, Shakib Al Hasan’s 84-run knock and debutant Zakir Hasan’s maiden century failed to sustain the momentum and kept collapsing like cradles.
Mehidy Hasan showed aggressive intent by smacking Mohammed Siraj for a boundary off the first delivery on Day 5. Shakib Al Hasan also went down against Axar Patel, however, the aggression was short-lived as Siraj got India the 1st wicket.
Wickets kept falling thereafter as the Axar and Kuldeep wrapped the Bangladesh innings in the 1st session and won the game by 188 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav became the player of the match following his best bowling figures in Test cricket. He also picked his third five-wicket haul in the format in just 8 matches he has played so far.
KL Rahul became the fifth Indian skipper with to have registered victory in all three formats playing outside India. With this win, India have now stormed into the 2nd place in the latest WTC rankings. They now head to Dhaka for the 2nd Test which will take place from December 22-26.
