IND vs BAN: Rohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar, and Kuldeep Sen are injured and will miss the third ODI. Rohit injured his left thumb while fielding in the slips. He batted No. 9 with stitches on his hand but is a question for the December 14 World Test Championship series.
Chahar strained his hamstring and could only bowl three overs; Sen had a stiff back.
“Kuldeep, Deepak, and Rohit will miss the next game,” Rahul Dravid remarked. “Kuldeep and Deepak are out of the series, and Rohit will miss the next game. He’ll fly back to Bombay, contact an expert, and see if he can play in the Tests. That’s premature. They won’t play in the following game.”
“It’s not too bad,” Rohit stated post-match. “Finger dislocation and sutures. Luckily, it’s not a fracture, so I can bat.”
Rohit was at the second slip when Anamul Haque edged in Mohammed Siraj’s second over. Rohit lost the ball despite having both hands on it. After the ball hit his thumb, he was treated and sent for scans. Vice-captain KL Rahul led the team in his absence.
Virat Kohli went up to open with Shikhar Dhawan instead of Rohit. At No. 9, India needed 65 from 44 balls to win. He and Chahar, who came in at No. 8 but wasn’t 100%, added six off 15 deliveries before Chahar was out.
Rohit kept attacking and hitting boundaries to reduce the required run rate to 12 off three balls and 6 off the last. Mustafizur Rahman’s Yorker ended the game and series for Bangladesh. Rohit scored 51 not out off 28 balls, with 3 fours and 5 sixes.
Dravid praised the innings. “I think he’s brave. He had a major dislocation and needed sutures and injections to bat. It’s unbelievable how close he got us with that inning, it was a tremendous inning by the skipper. Great courage to give us a chance.”
