IND vs BAN: India suffered a shocking 1-wicket defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the first of the three-match ODI series at Shere Bangla National Stadium on Sunday. Rohit Sharma’s team put in a below-par batting display and were bundled out for just 186 runs on the board.

The top three comprising Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan went back to the hut inside the first 11 overs with just 49 runs on the board.

Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul then added 43 runs for the four-wicket to lead some sort of recovery. But Shreyas Iyer’s short-ball woes continued to haunt him.

He, once again, mistimed a pull only to be caught by the wicketkeeper. Iyer scored 24 runs in 39 balls. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals, thereafter, but KL Rahul stood firm at one end.

He went on to score a sensational knock of 73 runs in 70 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. Rahul could have scored a hundred but he didn’t receive any support at the other end.

For Bangladesh’s bowling attack, Shakib Al Hasan starred with a five-wicket haul, while Ebadot Hossain picked four wickets. India only had 186 runs to defend and needed a good start with the ball.

Deepak Chahar had the first breakthrough on the very first ball of the second innings to revive India’s hopes. The second over came in the form of Anamul Haque (14) in the 10th over by Siraj to leave Bangladesh in trouble at 26 for 2.

Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan led the recovery as the duo added 48 runs for the third wicket. Sundar struck in the 20th over by sending Das (41) back.

Still, Bangladesh was cruising until Virat Kohli took a blinder in the 24th over to send Shakib Al Hasan (29) packing. The likes of Mushfiqur Rahim (18) and Mahmudullah (14) also departed cheaply as Bangladesh had lost nine wickets for just 136 runs on the board.

India, at this stage, was the favourite to win the match. However, Mehidy Hasan then played a game-changing 38-run knock to pull off an unlikely win over Bangladesh.

IND vs BAN 1st ODI Brief Scores: Bangladesh 187 for 9 (Litton 41, Mehidy 38*, Siraj 3-32, Washington 2-17, Sen 2-37) beat India 186 (Rahul 73, Shakib 5-36, Ebadot 4-47) by one wicket
