IND vs BAN 1st Test: Bangladesh is hosting India for a two-match test series that kick-started on Wednesday, December 14. Winning the toss, Indian skipper KL Rahul made an exemplary decision to bat first. Riding on to solid performance by Cheteshwar Pujara (86) and Shreyas Iyer (90), India put up a commanding first innings total of 404 runs on the board.
The Bangladesh batting attack dwindled in front of a decisive Indian bowling attack where Kuldeep Yadav struck with his brilliant five-wicket haul (5/40) and ace paceman Mohammed Siraj (3/20) provided vital support at the other end. As a result, Bangladesh was bundled out for a mere total of 150 runs, trailing by a huge margin of 254 runs.
Cheteshwar Pujara scored his fastest Test century
India dominated the match in the second innings on Day 3. Scintillating centuries from Shubhman Gill (110) and Cheteshwar Pujara (102) rode India to a fabulous total of 258 in just 61.4 overs post which skipper KL Rahul decided to declare the innings. Bangladesh needed 513 runs to win and they are 42/0 at Stumps, requiring another 471 runs on the last two days.
Indian batsmen largely benefited from the absence of terrific paceman Ebadot Hossain and veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan who sustained injuries in the first innings and couldn’t bowl in the second innings. As a result, Gill and Pujara were able to set on the crease quite comfortably as part-time bowlers Litton and Najumul had to take the ball in hand.
Bangladesh’s injury woes
All-Rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraj confirmed with the media that Hasan is suffering from a shoulder injury whereas Hossain has sustained a side strain. Ebadot and Shakib have both been spectacular for Bangladesh in the first innings and their absence has truly hurt Bangladesh and benefited India.
With a gigantic total of 513 on board, anchoring the target without Shakib and a contributing tailender Ebadot, Bangladesh will truly have a tough time on the field on Day 4. Liton Das and Najmul Shanto will take on the crease for Bangladesh at the start of the Day 4 play.
