IND vs BAN ODI: India is all set to play three ODIs and two Tests against Bangladesh, starting 4th December. Following the Bangladesh tour, India will be playing a T20I series against Sri Lanka at home.
According to a report by Inside Sport, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won’t be part of the series. Both are out of the scheme of things in T20 cricket and the board is planning to prepare a young team for the shortest format.
Hardik Pandya is set to be appointed as the new captain of India’s T20 team. He will be leading the team in the series against Sri Lanka.
BCCI to finalize the selection committee this month
Besides, the report also suggests that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has conveyed that the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Dinesh Karthik that they all would no longer be considered for selection in the T20 team.
“The new selection committee gets appointed in December. They are the ones who will take all formal decisions about the Indian squad. But it is certain that we need to move on from a few names. Rohit and Virat have already been spoken to. They are on the same page with the BCCI,” informed a top BCCI official to InsideSport.
As for KL Rahul, he will be missing the series due to his marriage. Another possible contender for the captain is Jasprit Bumrah but he is currently out due to injury.
“KL has asked for some personal time off. That is why he is not playing in New Zealand. He does not have any injury concerns or a break. He has some family commitments. I am not aware if he is getting married or engaged but yes, he has some personal commitment is what I can tell you,” a BCCI official told InsideSport earlier.
