IND vs ENG 1st T20I: India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series after beating England by 50 runs in the first match on Friday at Southampton. India batted beautifully and notched a good-looking score of 198 runs in the first innings. Rohit Sharma looked good right from the start as he struck five outstanding boundaries. However, the Indian skipper couldn’t convert the start into a big score. He got out off Moeen Ali in the 3rd over. However, his wicket had little impact on India’s scoring rate.

Coming in at number three, Hooda his two sixes off Ali in the same over. Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, though, didn’t have a great day at the office. He got out in the 5th over but Suryakumar Yadav and Hood played in an aggressive manner and added 43 runs for the third wicket.

Both played vital knocks for the team. Hooda made 33 off 17 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav made 39 off 19. India had lost four wickets for 126 runs with 9 overs still left. Hardik Pandya, who is in the form of his life, paced his innings beautifully, thereafter, and went on to bring up his first fifty in T20 international. He didn’t try to play risky shots but rather manoeuvre the gaps perfectly.

The Indian all-rounder hit 6 fours and 1 six en route to his 33-ball 51, helping the team reach a mammoth score on the board. For England, Jordan (2 for 23) and M Parkinson (1 for 44) were the most impressive.

England succumb to early pressure

In pursuit of the target, England never got going. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh exhibited a brilliant display of swing bowling in the powerplay. Kumar got Buttler on his first very first ball with a peach of a delivery. Wickets kept falling, thereafter, as the likes of Malan, Livingstone, and Roy all failed to hit straps.

Hardik Pandya, who scored a half-century in the first innings, picked four wickets in the second innings. He returned with outstanding figures of 4 for 33 in 4 overs. Besides, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal were brilliant as well.

The second T20 international is slated to be played at Birmingham on 9th July 2022.
