IND vs ENG: Natalie Sciver of England has withdrawn from the next limited-overs matchup with India. She has cited the need to prioritise her mental health and well-being. Sciver’s replacement as captain for the T20I series is Amy Jones.

In a statement put out by the ECB, Sciver was quoted as saying, “I’ve played a lot of cricket over the last nine months and I am very emotionally fatigued. The elite sport demands a lot and for the moment I’m not able to perform without compromising my well-being, so I need to take some time away from cricket to focus on myself. It’s the right decision for me and it’s the right decision for the team.”

Sciver is the third senior player who will be missing from the England squad for the upcoming series against India. Earlier, Knight got ruled out of the tournament with a back injury. Later Katherine Brunt got rested for the series. In such a case, the responsibility of the team now lies on young shoulders.

Brunt was given a day off given her workload and recent participation in several cricket tournaments. In England’s multi-format series versus South Africa, Sciver and Brunt were both visible together. They later participated in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) campaign. Sciver, who had been the team’s captain during the CWG, finished fourth after falling to India in the semifinals. The Trent Rockets were represented by Brunt and Sciver at the Hundred Women’s 2022.

Sciver will no longer be participating in the series against India. Hence the England and Wales Cricket Board named Amy Jones as the team’s captain for the T20I series. The team for the ODIs has not yet been announced.

India, on the other hand, overcame England at the CWG 2022 to go to the finals before falling to Australia in the decisive game to win the silver medal. The T20I and ODI trip of England by India is significant. The reason is the final series for one of the finest players in women’s cricket, Jhulan Goswami, who has written her name in bold.

The match will be interesting to watch starting on Saturday (September 10), as both teams have a lot of active players.
