IND vs ENG: Virat Kohli is listed as a questionable starter for Tuesday’s (11th July) opening ODI match against England at The Oval in London. According to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources in India and England, the star batsman has a groin niggle. The final decision regarding Kohli’s participation in the opener of the three-match series will be made on Tuesday morning.
“The injury is not looking seriously at this stage. The medical team is examining. He was taken for scans and his chances of playing will depend on the results of the scan,” sources informed.
The 17-member Indian team has enough backup players for the three-match series. The 2nd & 3rd ODI matches will take place at Lord’s and Old Trafford on July 14 and 17 respectively.
The third and final T20I took place in Nottingham. From there the Indian squad travelled back to London on Monday. Those who played in the T20I on Sunday did not participate in the training session. The team management had designated Monday to be an optional training day.
Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, and Mohammed Siraj attended the practice session at the Oval ground on Monday afternoon.
BCCI to announce India’s T20I squad against West Indies
BCCI will announce India’s T20I squad for the West Indies tour in a day or two. The majority of the senior players who rested for the three ODIs in the Caribbean will most likely be back in the T20I squad. Kohli will be the sole exception.
The former India captain has experienced a protracted dry spell in all forms of the game. But his omission won’t be due to a lack of runs. He had demanded a break.
India and the West Indies square off in three ODIs and five T20Is in the Caribbean and the US. It will take place between July 22 and August 7.
