IND vs NZ: Team India led by Hardik Pandya put in a clinical display with the bat and ball on Monday as they registered a 65-run win over New Zealand in the second T20 international at Bay Oval ground.

After being asked to bat first, India notched a mammoth score of 191 runs on the board on a difficult pitch to bat at. Given how they started their innings, it didn’t look like they would be able to reach that big a score.

Suryakumar Yadav scores high

However, a sensational knock from Suryakumar Yadav turned things around dramatically in the second half of the innings. India was going at pretty much run-a-ball in the first half.

But Suryakumar Yadav took matters into his own hands and made a mockery of New Zealand’s bowling unit in the last 60 balls of the innings. Be it spinners to pacers, the Indian batter didn’t spare anyone.

He scored his hundred in just 49 balls and went on to play an unbeaten knock of 111 runs in just 51 balls. All the other Indian batters, namely Pant (6), Ishan Kishan (36), Iyer (13), and Hardik Pandya (13) weren’t able to play freely, which tells how good that knock was from Yadav.

It could have been a 200-plus total had Southee not bowled a sensational final over. He picked a hat trick and denied Suryakumar Yadav to take the strike in that over.

In pursuit of the target, Bhuvneshwar Kumar made great use of the swinging conditions and denied New Zealand of making a solid start. The Indian bowler sent Finn Allen back to the hut on the second ball of the innings.

Devon Conway and Williamson added 56 runs for the second wicket but they were guilty of not keeping up with the required rate. Chahal made things difficult for them in the middle overs and picked the important wickets of Williamson (61) and Neesham (0) to peg them back.

Williamson stayed there till the 18th over, however, he needed someone who could play like Suryakumar Yadav, on the other end. However, wickets kept falling at the other end, and, in the end, they fell short by a big margin.

The third and final T20I is slated to be played on Tuesday at McLean Park in Napier.

IND vs NZ Brief Scores: India 191 for 6 (Suryakumar 111*, Kishan 36, Southee 3-34) beat New Zealand 126 (Williamson 61, Hooda 4-10, Siraj 2-24) by 65 runs
